About Eden Wood Center

Eden Wood Center
Eden Wood Center is conveniently located in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, a western suburb of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Each year, approximately 450 people with disabilities participate in programs offered at Eden Wood.

Please note: Some of the facilities, services and activities described in the sections below may not be available to groups renting Eden Wood Center for meetings, conferences and retreats. Please contact Friendship Ventures for more information.

History
Eden Wood Center was established in 1925 as the Glen Lake Children's Camp. Until the late 1940's the camp served as a summer haven for children with tuberculosis. In the late 1950's, ARC of Hennepin County operated the site as Camp Indian Chief, a day camp for people with developmental disabilities. In 1995 Friendship Ventures began operating the camp as Eden Wood Center.

Facilities
Eden Wood Center comprises 20 acres of woodlands and wetlands on Birch Island Lake. The site is located near parks and attractions.

The Dining & Welcome Lodge is a climate-controlled 6,000 square foot building that includes dining and program areas with seating for 150.

Amenities include: · two modern cabins and a more-rustic dormitory · indoor and outdoor recreation areas · outdoor camping and picnic sites · easy access to city bike trails · health services center and laundry facilities · sidewalks for easy access to cabins and buildings. A high- and low-elements challenge course was recently added to the site.

Activities
A variety of recreational opportunities are offered at Eden Wood Center. These include sledding and broomball during the winter and canoeing, fishing, volleyball, basketball, nature walks, campfires and golf at nearby courses during the spring, summer and fall.

Directions
Take the Twin Cities' Crosstown Highway 62 three-quarters of a mile west of I-494 to the stoplight at South Frontage Road/West 62nd Street. Turn left at the stoplight and then an immediate right onto Indian Chief Road. Go 0.2 miles south. The entrance to Eden Wood will be on your right. View a map to Eden Wood Center
