"... My two summers at Eden Wood count as two of the happiest, hardest, most fulfilling and memorable of my life...''

Focus on Friendship
Winter 2008 Edition

Happy New Year!

Camp Friendship and Eden Wood Center continue to offer opportunities to enjoy winter camp throughout January at our Winter Weekenders; but the cold temperatures does make us look forward to those warmer days of summer. Click here to see our winter issue of Focus on Friendship.

Our cover story features three families who have not just one, but two children that attend Friendship Ventures programs. It’s not at all uncommon for families to have more than one child with disabilities, which presents unique challenges to parents.

We also explore the value of having international staff work at our camp programs. For many years, Friendship Ventures has hired staff from around the world, a practice that benefits both our campers and the globetrotting staff.

Learn about a new initiative for Friendship Ventures: Project New Hope.  Partnering with various veterans groups and Lions Clubs, we are supporting a program to help veterans and their families who are struggling with reintegration after deployment. With our three accessible sites and 44 years experience with people with various disabilities, Friendship Ventures was a natural partner for the project. Weekend sessions at our program centers will focus on the restorative value of outdoor activities and the special concerns of vets dealing with a variety of physical disabilities and mental challenges. Professionally led sessions will offer help to all family members struggling to regain their family identity.

Also included in this newsletter is a special feature describing Ventures Travel LLC and the fabulous staff and volunteers who make travel vacations a reality for many people with disabilities.   Click www.venturestravel.org to view the 2008 trip schedule.

Enjoy your winter. Thanks for your friendship!
