Golf Tournaments Benefit Friendship Ventures

Summer is not only camp season for Friendship Ventures, but it is also golf tournament season. Friendship Ventures is the fortunate recipient of proceeds from four golf tournaments.

The first tournament of the summer was the Blue Goose Golf Tournament. The organization, officially known as the Honorable Order of the Blue Goose International, Minnesota Pond, is a group of insurance professionals. Established to provide educational workshops, the Blue Goose also offers service to communities. Years ago the organization dedicated their community service to Friendship Ventures. For many years, the group’s service was a Saturday of volunteer work and the earnings from investments. In 2000, they began the golf tournament, which was June 14 this year at Brookview Golf Course in Golden Valley. During their 30-year relationship with Friendship Ventures, Blue Goose has donated nearly $40,000.

Another golf tournament this summer is the Jolly Open, Monday, August 1, at Southbrook Golf Club in Annandale. This tournament, now in its 19th year, was first organized by Barb and Gabbi Harnett, their family and friends. The name Jolly is a combination of Joey and Molly, two of the Harnetts’ children, both of whom participate in Friendship Ventures services after prolonged seizures in early childhood led to brain damage.

In their efforts to improve the lives of those with developmental disabilities, the Harnetts, through the Jolly Open, have raised more than $450,000 for scholarships, giving 900 children an opportunity to benefit from camp and other Friendship Ventures programs.

There are still openings to golf in the Jolly Open. The scramble tournament begins at 1:00 p.m. with a shotgun start. A social, dinner and silent auction, also at Southbrook Golf Club, follow golf. Sponsorships are available, as are opportunities to volunteer or donate auction items. For more information, click here or call 952-852-0101.

The remaining two tournaments are the Circle of Friends Golf Tournament, taking place July 18 at Rolling Green Country Club in Hamel, and the Jerry Schoen Memorial Golf Classic August 29 at Wild Marsh Golf Course in Buffalo. Watch for scores and more information in upcoming Snapshots.
