First Sessions at Camp New Hope - Off to a Great Start!
Laurie “Chet” Tschetter, director of programs for Friendship Ventures, spent part of the summer preparing for and directing camp sessions at Camp New Hope, the site Friendship Ventures took over in June. Her report:
“We have returned after one and a half weeks at Camp New Hope. We had a successful camp serving 32 campers with an awesome group of staff providing a fun and safe experience.
Fran Buesgens returned and was an awesome cook! Collin Donnelly, our maintenance man extraordinaire really worked hard to get Camp New Hope ready, fixing things and setting up for camp, and getting the campers who use wheelchairs down to the lake. He was wonderful.
Patti Holm returned as the nurse and made sure the health center ran smoothly…great job. All the staff had fun tie-dyeing their staff shirts – even though some had never heard of tie-dye before!
Fishing was a popular activity. During the day the campers would say, ‘I caught more than 10 fish this morning,’ and I would look at the staff in wonder and they would say, ‘Yes it is true.’ They caught sunfish, blue gill and even a couple of small bass. The lake and the sunset were beautiful!
Our camper groups with staff used the modern accessible cabins while I slept in the tent cabins the second week and loved it. It was an awesome experience.
Thanks to all the staff who did their part in preparing for Camp New Hope -- your support and work were well worth it. The people who come to CNH love it. We are off to a great start with Camp New Hope!”
