Winter Fun at Winter Camp!
 |
|
Winter camp is filled with numerous fun activities, including skiing, snowshoeing and icefishing.
|
What’s more fun in winter than meeting new friends or meeting up with old friends at Camp Friendship? Sign up for winter camp to try cross country skiing, ice fishing, sledding, broomball, snow painting or a hay ride. Or escape from the cold with indoor activities: playing ping pong or air hockey, dancing, baking cookies, or making a memory book.
Now is the time to register for Winter Camp sessions, either Dec. 27 – 31, or two options in January, from Jan. 2 – 5, or the longer Jan. 2 – 7. Sessions are for all ages and ability levels, and include “All Kids Belong,” a session for kids with and without disabilities. Continue the fun with Winter Weekenders, offered every weekend in January at either Camp Friendship, Eden Wood Center or both sites.
For information on Winter Camp sessions and registration, click here or call 952-852-0101.

May We Have This Dance?
Ask anyone who has been a part of a Friendship Ventures summer or winter camp – what is the favorite activity every week? It is, without a doubt, the Thursday night dance. Now our participants don’t have to wait for their week at camp to attend one of our dances; we are hosting dances several times each year!
The first dance was Saturday, Oct. 28 at Camp Friendship. While it wasn’t billed as a costume ball, most of the 75 dancers showed up in their Halloween costumes! For an inaugural event, it was a smashing success. Many dancers met up with friends they had made at camp last summer or in previous years. Everyone enjoyed the music, snacks and, of course, the dancing!
The next dance is the Winter Ball, Saturday, Dec. 2, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Eden Wood Center. Friendship Ventures will provide a DJ and refreshments. Cost is $4 for staff and participants and reservations are required by Nov. 27. For more information or to register, contact Melissa Kuisle at 952-852-0110 or mkuisle@friendshipventures.org.

Wagon Train Hits the Trail for Friendship Ventures
 |
|
Paul Olson joined the New Ventures Wagon Train in his doctor’s buggy.
|
A procession of covered wagons, buggies, four-wheel wagons, a stagecoach and individual horseback riders rode a total of 46 miles over three days in August to raise money to support Friendship Ventures programs and fund scholarships for participants.
The New Ventures wagon train traveled from Isanti to the towns of Weber, Bethel and Goldenwood, Minn. The 60 people who rode the train attended fund raisers and solicited donations for Friendship Ventures, raising more than $2,500.
Friendship Ventures board member Brian Heichl teamed up with volunteers Maynard and Jeanie Folstrom, owners of the Hobble Trail Ranch in Isanti to plan and lead the event. The wagon wheel format for the wagon train meant that riders began and ended each day at the Hobble Trail Ranch, traveling out to the day’s destination and returning at night.
This was the first year for the event, and Heichl and the Folstroms are already planning for another wagon train next year. “We hope to expand it next year,” noted Jeanie Folstrom. “It was a lot of fun, and it was for a good cause. We liked the idea of helping other people.” Thanks to all the trail riders for supporting Friendship Ventures!

Venture to New Places - Travel with Ventures Travel, LLC
 |
|
Hawaii vacationers paused before visiting the Maui Ocean Center during a recent trip.
|
In 1985, Friendship Ventures launched Ventures Travel, a program that offered travel vacation opportunities to our participants with developmental disabilities. Some participants wanted to travel instead of spending their vacation at camp; some wanted to do both. Ventures Travel made it possible with good planning and the same dedicated staff that makes camp programs so great.
In 2004, Ventures Travel LLC was established as a limited liability company continuing to offer exciting trips to those who want to travel. Ventures Travel, LLC will offer 97 trips in 2007 to destinations like Branson, Mo., the Black Hills, various Disney parks, an Arizona dude ranch, the Wisconsin Dells and Northern Minnesota. Trips are planned to please the tastes of all travelers, from sports lovers to country music fans, history buffs, sun worshippers and festival lovers. Vacationers may travel by van, train, airplane or cruise ship.
Check out the new trips offered in 2007, and start planning now for a memorable vacation. Click here to visit Ventures Travel, LLC’s website, www.venturestravel.org or call 952-852-0107.

In Thanksgiving...
In this season of Thanksgiving, Friendship Ventures is thankful to so many people for so much. We thank our participants with disabilities for the unconditional love, exuberance, gratitude and unbridled joy they share with us. We’re also grateful to their families, volunteers, supporters, neighbors, donors, staff and friends. We’re proud of the opportunities we provide to our participants, and thank everyone who lends us a hand. Every gift, every act of kindness is equally important to us. We can’t do it alone, and we’re so thankful for everyone who helps us.
